Excellent Adventure

Operation Transfer Complete.

We still had 2 embryos as of transfer time. One was 4-celled and one was 6-celled (they like for them to be between 6-8 cells). So - not great, but it is what it is. We were trying to name them last night as we couldn't sleep - you know, familiar duos like Abbot & Costello. Michael came up with Wham! of all things. Seriously. On the drive there this morning, he thought up Bill & Ted, which we thought was more appropriate given that they were about to have quite the excellent adventure. So Bill & Ted it is.

For those of you who haven't been through an IVF cycle - they have you drink 20-30 ounces of water on your way to the transfer appointment since they need you to have a full bladder to show your uterus on the external ultrasound (so they can see when they put the embryos back). Which is no big deal. Unless they are running late. Like 30 freakin' minutes late. 30 minutes is a REALLY long time when you already have to go. I was seriously worried that I would pee on the doctor as they were doing the transfer. She reassured me that it wouldn't be the first time it happened, but that actually didn't make me feel much better.

So, the actual transfer went fine. I was nearly cross-eyed from having to pee so badly, so I didn't think to ask any of the questions I had planned on - what was the quality of the embryos? Did they do assisted hatching? Should I have my progesterone checked during the two week wait? They also didn't give me a picture of the embryos this time. I'm hoping that doesn't mean anything.

After I spent what felt like a half-an-hour emptying my bladder (finally!), Michael took me over to my Dad's and got me settled on the couch before he hit the road. I dozed and watched Comedy Central until my step-mom came home to fix me some homemade chicken soup for lunch. I could really get used to this bedrest thing.

As Michael was driving back to Alabama, he called to tell me that "Freedom" by Wham! came on the radio. We're hoping that's a good omen, since that was their original name.

And now we wait.
