Well, That Was Fast

The surgeon's secretary called me this morning to schedule the surgery. Already! I realized yesterday that I forgot to ask the doctor the #1 question my doctor-friends Ravi and Chi told me to ask - "How many of these surgeries have you done?" Duh. He certainly sounded like he'd done a lot, but who knows. I speak with authority quite often on things I don't know much about. (Shhh... don't tell.) Anyway, I asked his secretary if she knew and she said that gall bladder surgery was his specialty, he'd been doing it since the mid-80's, and that he was known in the area as the "Lap - Chole King". (The surgery is called a cholecystectomy and it's done laparoscopically.) Not sure I'd want that as my claim to fame, but I certainly want the guy cutting me open to have that as his.

So, she's checking with the hospital, but the tentative date is Thursday, October 9th in the afternoon. I'm sure that means I can't eat anything all day and will be a big grumpypants, but it will also give me the long Columbus Day Weekend to recover. Now I need to find a ride to and from the hospital...

The other thing I forgot to tell you yesterday was that while the surgeon was examining me, he did a breast exam. Odd, but okay, we'll go with it. He asked me if I drank a lot of caffeinated beverages. I told him I cut all caffeine out years ago. He was shocked and said I have very dense breasts which he usually sees in people with a high caffeine intake. Just thought it was interesting that caffeine could be linked to your breast tissue. (And that anyone would use anything other than the word "small" to describe my breasts.) I think he did that particular exam because I had a mammogram years ago and I'm only 35. Guess that is another question I should have asked. Oh well.

Okay, that is the update for today!

Do you think it could have anything to do with the thyroid stuff? My Mom and I both have been told we have "dense breasts" and neither of us drinks caffeine. We may have it once a month. But we both have Hashi's, so maybe it's a hormonal thing.

Just a though. Weird though.

I'm glad the person doing your procedure is an expert and I'm glad you'll have a little extra time to recover!

I bet that if you look, you'll find a car in the parking lot with the license plate Lap chole King!
